Yesterday, MediaTek has announced the all-new G90 & G90T Soc’s here in India under the G series. The chipsets are designed for use in Mid-range gaming smartphones. These chipsets contain HyperEngine gaming technology by MediaTek. This tech consists of several features that are designed to boost the performance of smartphone games. The chipset is an octa-core CPU clocked at 2.05GHz, which includes the same ARM Cortex-A76 and A55 cores, same as the latest flagship chipset from Qualcomm and Huawei. The chipset is coupled with a Mali G76 GPU with clock speed up to 800MHz. It also supports up to 10GB of LPDDR4x RAM.

The company’s announcement suggests that they’re hoping their new chips will find a home in gaming-focused smartphones similar to the current devices out there. However, gaming phones like these have tended to use flagship processors from rival chipmaker Qualcomm in the past, while MediaTek’s chips tend to find a home in midrange and budget devices.

The chipsets are built on 12nm process. It can support up to 64MP camera sensors, as of now, Samsung GW1 is the only sensor which spots the same. The G90 and G90T are the first SoCs in MediaTek’s gaming-focused G-Series lineup. The chipsets support HDR10, and they also have an intelligent network prediction engine that MediaTek says can sense when Wi-Fi quality is degrading and automatically use an LTE connection as a backup. The chips also include a “rapid response engine” to make touchscreen controls feel more responsive. It spots L3 cache, 64MP single camera and multi-camera combinations, quad pixel technology for night shot mode, triple-ISP design and AI facial detection and the power to accelerate AI-camera applications.

At the event, MediaTek compares the Helio G90T with Snapdragon 730 and Snapdragon 730G SoCs. The chipmaker says that the Helio G90T clearly outshines the Qualcomm chipsets and also scores higher than the competition in AnTuTu (on paper, real-life scenarios may be different). With the GeekBench 4.1, the new Helio chipset offers 10 percent better results when compared to Snapdragon 730G and 9 percent more than Qualcomm Snapdragon 730.

At the launch event, Xiaomi India head and Global VP Manu Kumar Jain announced that Xiaomi will launch a new Helio G90T powered phone in India. Previously the brand launched the Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A budget phones powered by Helio P22 and Helio A22 SoCs respectively in India last year, but this will be the first time the company is coming up with a phone powered by a top-end MediaTek chip. It had been only a few year’s since the ban of Xiaomi to use MediaTek chipset was lifted.
